Good evening!

Unfortunately I have some bad news in regards to our pickleball courts: 

Optimist: due to where the funds are coming from to repair and resurface the Optimist courts, extra steps are now having to be taken to verify the funds are being used correctly, are being used to hire the best people, and also to make sure once the repairs are done the courts (and drainage repair) hold up like they are supposed to. Because of these extra steps, the drainage problem may not be repaired until next February or March. Therefore the resurfacing may not take place until April.    I knew absolutely nothing about this until this past weekend - I apologize for leading you to believe they would be finished in October (I was just going by what I had been told up to this point).

Westmont: When the new posts he ordered arrived, the contractor found out that they were shorter than the ones that they already had.   He said they could modify them by adding about two inches somehow, or he could order the correct posts.  He couldn't tell me exactly when the correct posts would be delivered but I told him to order the correct posts (instead of modifying these). I felt we should do the courts correctly the first time and not have to worry about problems with them in the future. Hopefully this was the right call.

Nets: The correct nets I ordered are still scheduled to be in stock by the end next week (and then shipped when they're in stock).  Once they arrive we will put up the third net at Taft Broome and two nets at Westmont.

I apologize for all the bad news!  Hopefully once the city gets all the courts repaired and correctly outfitted it will be worth the wait!

For what it's worth, I've been talking with a guy who is trying to get Mooresville to convert 2 of their 18 tennis courts into pickleball courts - so far Mooresville won't agree to converting any tennis courts into pickleball courts.  So maybe we're luckier than we know!
